Quiet day in Perugia

Friday October 23 was a mix of sun and cloud.  High of 20C.  We slept in and rested from our Thursday day trip to Spello.  We had decided to have dinner out, so headed out to the historic centre early afternoon to do some wandering before our 7:15 p.m. dinner reservation.

The bus stop is opposite the church in Monteluce--- about a 5 minute walk from our apartment.

We decided to have another porchetta sandwich at Granieri for a late lunch.

Matteotti square

Today there was a short line up for the paninis.

We had the 1916 again-- porchetta, roasted apples, raisons, nuts, mustard.

Beautiful view of the Umbrian hills

Beautiful day for views of Umbria

There are lots of narrow streets to wander down in Perugia.  I am always on the lookout for interesting plaques.

Another building with a plaque

"Mario Angeloni was born in this house on September 15, 1896.  He was a lawyer, republican, anti-fascist and Freemason.  Perugia matured the high ideals that inspired his life: democracy, union and brotherhood among peoples, social justice among men, freedom.  He received a silver medal in the Great War, died in Spain in defence of the Republic in 1936".  The plaque was installed on June 20, 2021.

We stopped at a small ceramics shop called Maioliche Istoriate Luciana Mari di Simona Fortini (History painted Majolica).

Entrance to the shop.

One display window.

She and her mother are the ceramicists- they work out of Deruda- another beautiful Umbrian village located just 15 km south of Perugia, world famous for its production of artistic ceramics.
We bought a small dish.

Next we went to visit a beautiful glass store----Blueside Cult Store.

Incredible table setting.  They also had some very cool jewellery.

Return to Piazza  IV Novembre

We decided to stop at Sandri for an apertivo.  We both had Campari and soda, which came in small bottles.

Another photo of Sandri Pasticceria--coffee in the daytime, bar in the evening.

This has become a favourite spot for us.

Me too!

Then it was on to dinner at Osteria A Priori -- a restaurant on the second level and a shop on the ground floor to buy wine and other provisions.  It is a traditional Umbrian restaurant, focussing on local ingredients and Slow Food products.  It was recommended by Elizabeth Manchilli and others.

Outside of restaurant.  I took this picture earlier in the day.
There is an outdoor patio, but it was too cool to sit out this evening.

Beautiful second floor restaurant

We shared agnolotti filled with red wine stewed beef, served with Cannara onions.

Wild Boar stew with Umbrian flatbread

The food was very good and the service and ambiance excellent.  Portions are quite large.  They served us each one half of the pasta dish and then served us the boar dish to share.

A nice relaxing day in Perugia.
